The Conference

The main topic of the conference is the adoption of the unified European currency by the new EU member countries, with the focus on:

• Readiness of individual economies for EURO adoption, fulfilment of Maastricht criteria;
• Motivations and reasons for setting (or not setting) the date of adoption;
• The conversion itself and its pitfalls;
• Expected and real consequences of the adoption (or non-adoption);
• Differences in the participants' view of adoption of the unified currency(national banks, commercial financial institutions, entrepreneurial subjects, consumers).

Key representatives of national banks, commercial financial institutions and entrepreneurs from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and other EU countries will appear in two panels. The Governor of the Czech National Bank, Mr. Zdenek Tuma, already promised to participate. Mr. Erik Best, the publisher of the Fleet Sheet bulletin, will moderate the entire conference.

The conference is intended for professionals and for those interested in the EURO adoption topic from general public. In the panel discussion, speakers will answer questions from auditorium.

We assume that the speakers will present both different views of expectation from EURO adoption (or non-adoption) and practical experience and real consequences of the adoption.

Official languages of the conference will be Czech, Slovak and English.

President of the Czech Republic, Mr. Vaclav Klaus, promised to support the conference preliminarily.
